Geophysicist - Sydney, New South Wales

  • Build and drive your career within a leading engineering geophysics team
  • Work on exciting & challenging geoscience projects within Australia and internationally
  • Sydney, New South Wales

We are looking to attract, develop, and retain the best geophysicists in Sydney to work within and support a global multidisciplinary consulting & engineering services organisation.

It's a great time to join TetraTech Coffey’s geophysics team. This role will build your technical expertise with a range of projects.  No two days will be the same and cross-skilling with other geoscience disciplines is encouraged.

You will work on innovative geotechnical engineering projects, on groundwater, environmental geophysics projects and in the infrastructure, energy & resources, and renewables space.

About the role

Reporting to the Geophysics Practice Leader in our Chatswood office, this position needs an experienced geophysicist to work on exciting and innovative geotechnical engineering (transport and linear infrastructure), energy, groundwater and environmental geophysics projects, often being connected to major iconic infrastructure projects.

Your key focus will be field work, data handling (processing, analysis & interpretation), and interpretative reporting. Work will involve short to medium duration travel throughout Australia and sometimes overseas locations.

About you

You will have a minimum 5 years of applicable engineering geophysics experience, preferably in a geotechnical consulting environment.

You will be degree qualified in the geosciences and/or geo-engineering disciplines, and ideally have a Master's degree or be pursuing post-graduate qualifications.

The work will frequently take you to the field including possible interstate and occasionally international travel with on average more than 50% of your time being spent out of the office in the field collecting high quality data.  Previous experience in marine geophysical survey techniques would be highly desirable but not essential.

Interstate travel is likely with occasional international work.

You will be familiar with geophysical, geological and ideally geotechnical data presentation software such as: Surfer®, SurfSeis©, Rayfract®, Leapfrog Geo, gINT and using other technical scientific analysis.

You must have work rights for Australia and have a full driver’s licence.
